Payments & deposits

Where your money goes

Gaplessly never holds your customers' money. Deposits and fees are charged straight into your own Stripe account, and Gaplessly takes no cut.

Quick answer

To check whether your account can currently take payments, go to Payments and look at the Stripe connection card. A green dot means you're ready to go; anything else tells you what's left to do.

1. Your own Stripe account, not Gaplessly's

When you connect Stripe, from Payments, a real Stripe account is created that belongs to your business. You get your own full Stripe dashboard, separate from Gaplessly and from every other business on the platform.

Every deposit and every no-show fee is charged directly against that account. The money lands in your own Stripe balance and never passes through Gaplessly's account at any point.

2. Gaplessly takes no cut

Gaplessly does not take any fee out of a deposit or no-show fee your customers pay. Whatever a guest is charged is exactly what lands in your Stripe balance.

Note:Stripe itself still applies its own standard card-processing fee to each charge, since that's a cost between your business and Stripe directly, the same as it would be if you used Stripe on its own.

3. You're the merchant of record

  • Every deposit and fee shows up in your own Stripe dashboard, not just in Gaplessly.
  • Your business is the merchant of record for each charge, so any dispute or chargeback is between you and Stripe directly.
  • A customer's card statement shows your business, not Gaplessly.

4. When your account can (and can't) take payments

What Payments showsWhat it means
Not connectedNo Stripe account yet. Bookings confirm the ordinary way, with no payment step.
Stripe account created, but setup isn't finishedYou still have Stripe onboarding steps to complete.
Connected, Stripe is verifying your detailsYou've given Stripe everything it asked for. Nothing more to do, deposits switch on automatically once Stripe finishes reviewing.
Stripe can't verify this accountStripe rejected something about the business, its country, or its entity type. Some cases need a direct conversation with Stripe support before deposits can switch on.
Connected and ready to take paymentsDeposits and no-show fees work normally.

An account can exist and still not be able to take money yet, if verification isn't finished. Gaplessly checks this live before every booking and simply skips the payment step rather than risk a charge that fails partway through.

5. Getting the money into your bank account

Once a deposit or fee lands in your Stripe balance, when it actually reaches your bank account is controlled by your own Stripe account's payout settings, the same as it would be for any business using Stripe directly. Gaplessly doesn't set or change your payout schedule.

You can see and adjust your payout schedule from your own Stripe dashboard, reachable from Payments once you're connected (the button reads Manage on Stripe).
