A Timely alternative without per-staff pricing
The short answer
Timely bills per bookable staff member on every tier, A$42 to A$79 each monthly. Our Pro plan covers 10 staff flat at A$149/mo, then A$10/mo each, and never passes A$199 a month for up to 25 staff.
Timely pricing, side by side with ours
Timely's figures were read off their own pricing page on 28 August 2026. Check them at the source before deciding, and tell us if anything here has gone out of date.

- Build plan staff cap
- Sold for 1 to 7 bookable staff only
- Above 7, Build disappears from the plan picker entirely ("Only available for salons with 1-7 staff"): a business that size is pushed onto Elevate or Innovate, not a discounted Build.
- Elevate plan, 10 staff
- A$436/mo total (A$43.60/staff)
- Not the headline A$65/staff x 10, which would be A$650. Their own staff-count selector shows the per-staff rate itself falling as headcount grows, confirmed by stepping through it live rather than multiplying the 1-staff rate out.
- Innovate plan, 5 staff
- A$339/mo total (A$67.80/staff)
- Not A$79 x 5 = A$395. Same volume-discount shape as Elevate.
- Innovate plan, 10 staff
- A$534/mo total (A$53.40/staff)
- Not A$79 x 10 = A$790.
- Guest checkout on the booking widget
- Not offered, on any path
- Not from the pricing page above; confirmed 2026-09-19 by stepping through a real, live Timely-powered salon booking widget end to end (bookings.gettimely.com, a real hair salon, service picked through to the final step). Every path to confirm a time, Facebook, Google or phone, requires an account first; phone still sends an SMS verification code before it will let the booking through. No guest option exists anywhere in the flow. Our own booking page takes a name, email and phone and confirms straight away, no account either side.

Where the two models actually diverge
Timely has no flat tier at all. Every one of its three plans, Build, Elevate and Innovate, is priced per bookable staff member per month, so the subscription is multiplied by your headcount no matter which tier you pick. Our plans include a team: Solo is one person, Growth includes 3, Pro includes 10, and only the seats beyond that carry a per-seat charge.
Using Timely's own published Build rate of A$42/mo per staff member and our published ladder: at five bookable staff, Timely's cheapest plan is A$210 a month and our Growth plan is A$83, because Growth includes 3 people and 2 extra seats are A$12 each. Build is not a like-for-like comparison at ten staff, though: Timely does not sell it past 7 people, so a ten-person business is pushed onto Elevate instead, whose real per-staff rate falls as headcount grows rather than staying flat, landing at A$436 a month for ten staff. Our Pro plan is A$149 at the same headcount, with 10 people included. Their own "Recommended" tier, Innovate, follows the same volume-discounted shape rather than a flat A$79/staff: A$339 a month at five staff and A$534 at ten. All figures exclude tax on both sides, neither includes card processing, and the Elevate/Innovate totals are read directly off Timely's own staff-count selector rather than multiplied out, since their per-staff rate is not constant.
Timely's own per-staff rate falls as a team grows, from A$79 to roughly A$53 a head on Innovate between one person and ten, but it never reaches ours: at ten staff Innovate is still over A$50 a head against our Pro plan's flat A$10 for every seat past the 10 already included, and nothing at all once the bill reaches A$199, up to 25 people. Build looks cheapest at A$42/staff, but stops being sold at all past 7 people.
The SMS allowance is real, and it is also how the tiers are sold
Timely bundles a monthly SMS allowance into each plan, 100 on Build, 200 on Elevate, 350 on Innovate, then charges 12c for anything over it. That is a genuinely generous allowance next to most of this category, and it is worth crediting.
It is also part of why the tiers exist: more SMS and more features both live behind the same upgrade, so a salon that wants the higher allowance is also paying the higher per-staff rate for everything else. We price texts per text instead: A$0.09 per text on Growth and Pro, with no allowance to buy up to, because the mobile carrier charges us for each one. Email confirmations and reminders are unmetered on every plan, including Solo.
What Timely does well, stated plainly
Timely is built specifically for hair and beauty, and it shows in the detail: a native staff app, a Consult app for digital consultation forms, retail stock tracking with direct supplier ordering, and next-business-day payouts on card takings. Its transaction fees are published too, 1.59% + 5c in person and 1.85% + 30c online, which is more than most vendors in this category are willing to print.
None of that changes the per-staff arithmetic above. It is the reason Innovate can be the right answer for a salon that wants that specific feature set and is happy paying per head for it.
What you get here that you do not get there
- A price that does not multiply by headcount. Hiring past 3 staff on Growth costs A$12 a head, not a flat A$42. Hire your eleventh and Timely does not just charge more per head, it takes away the plan you were on: Build stops selling entirely past 7 staff.
- Unmetered email confirmations and reminders on every plan, including the entry one.
- No booking cap on any appointment plan, and no limit on client records.
- The same platform runs table reservations, if you also run a venue alongside the salon.
When Timely is the right choice
You want a platform built specifically for hair and beauty, with a native staff app, digital consultation forms, retail stock tracking with supplier ordering, and a generous bundled SMS allowance on the higher tiers. If direct phone support and a category-specific feature set matter more to you than a bill that stays flat as you hire, Innovate is genuinely built for that.
Common questions
How much does Timely cost for a team of five?
On their published Build plan, A$42 per staff member a month, five bookable staff is A$210 a month excluding GST. Their Innovate plan works out to A$339 for the same team, not a flat A$79 x 5: Timely's own staff-count selector shows the per-staff rate falling as headcount grows. Figures read from gettimely.com/pricing on 28 August 2026.
Does Gaplessly charge per staff member?
Solo is one person by design. Growth includes 3 team members and Pro includes 10, each with a straightforward per-seat charge only past that count, A$12 on Growth and A$10 on Pro, and Pro never passes A$199 a month for up to 25 of them. Only staff clients can book count, so a receptionist's login is free. There is no plan where every hire multiplies the whole bill the way Timely's three tiers do.
Is Timely's SMS allowance actually better than yours?
For a salon that sends a high volume of text messages and wants it bundled into a flat monthly number, yes, 100 to 350 a month depending on plan is genuinely generous. We do it differently: email reminders are unmetered and free on every plan, and texts are A$0.09 per text on Growth and Pro, so a business that sends few is not paying for an allowance it does not use.
Can I move my client list, services and staff across from Timely?
Yes. Export your data from Timely and we will import your clients, services and staff. For the first 50 businesses we do the whole setup ourselves within 48 hours at no cost.
Does a client need an account to book with a Timely-powered salon?
Yes, on every path. Stepping through a real, live Timely booking widget end to end on 2026-09-19, confirming a time required logging in with Facebook or Google, or verifying a phone number by SMS code first. No guest option exists anywhere in the flow. A client booking with a Gaplessly business enters a name, email and phone and the booking confirms straight away, no account on either side.
