Phorest alternative for Australian salons

Moving off Phorest: what to take with you and what to look for

The short answer

You can leave Phorest and keep your clients: export your client data from Manager, Business, CSV Export, work out when your one-year agreement ends so you can give written notice a month before, then import the file into Gaplessly, which reads CSV, TSV, XLSX and JSON and shows a dry run before it writes a row. Phorest prints no salon price and offers no free trial, while Solo on Gaplessly is free up to 50 bookings a month and A$19 in a busier one, and any paid plan cancels from the dashboard with no exit fee.

Phorest pricing, side by side with ours

Phorest's figures were read off their own pricing page on 2 November 2026. Check them at the source before deciding, and tell us if anything here has gone out of date.

Phorest

Sales-led salon software. Five Australian plans, none with a printed price, on a one-year agreement that then renews monthly; texts, the card terminal and online deposits cost extra.

Published price
None
The Australian pricing page lists Grow, Complete Advantage, Complete Advantage Plus, Aesthetics Advantage and Aesthetics Advantage Plus, each with a "Request a quote" button. The quote form asks for your number of employees and locations.
Free trial
None
Their pricing page says they do not offer one. A free demo is the way in.
Agreement
One year, then monthly
Terms clause 13.1: it runs one year from the first monthly payment, then renews in one-month periods unless you give written notice at least one month before a period ends. Ending early means paying the subscription fees for the rest of the contracted period.
Text messages
12c each on Grow, 8.5c each on the other four plans
Per-text rates printed on the Australian pricing page. The page does not label a currency or say whether GST is added.
Card terminal
1.4% plus a per-transaction fee and GST, and $30 a month for terminal access
From their help centre article on PhorestPay fees, updated 29 February 2024. The per-transaction amount is printed as "$0.10c", which looks like a typo, so ask them what it is.
Online deposits
Fees may apply
Terms clause 5.10: Phorest may charge fees on online deposits, deducted before the rest reaches your bank account. No rate is published.
Your client data
Free self-service CSV export
Manager, Business, CSV Export covers client data and purchase history (help centre article updated 19 September 2024). Terms clause 13.4: a customised export needs an engineer and carries an administration charge, and Phorest may delete your data 60 days after the contract ends.
Support
Phone, email and in-app, on call Monday to Saturday
Their feature lists say "Support on-call Mon-Sat". Their terms make support subject to the fees in your order.

Take your clients with you first

Export before you give notice. Phorest’s terms let it delete your data 60 days after the contract ends, and a customised export after that point needs an engineer and carries an administration charge.

  • In Phorest, open Manager, then Business, then CSV Export, click New Export, pick a date range and a format, and download the file when its status shows Done. Their help article says this covers client data and purchase transaction history, and that large exports can take up to an hour.
  • For a single client, Client actions then Export gives a zip with appointment history, transactions and contact details. Their article says consultation forms are not part of it.
  • Their help articles do not describe a file of future appointments. Ask support for one in writing, or screenshot or print your diary for the weeks ahead, so nobody with a booking is lost in the changeover.
  • Keep a copy of every file somewhere that is not your Phorest login.

Check your agreement before you cancel

Phorest’s Australian terms (clause 13.1, read on 2 November 2026) say the agreement runs one year from the date your first monthly payment is received, then renews for one-month periods unless you give written notice at least one month before a period ends. If you end it early you owe the subscription fees for the rest of the contracted period. Your own order form is what binds you, so read it, and ask Phorest to confirm your end date in writing. This is a plain reading of their published terms, not legal advice.

  • Find the date your first monthly payment landed. That is when your year started.
  • Put the notice date in your calendar a month before the year, or any later month, ends.
  • Cancel the way their help centre says: for Australia it points to a request form. Save the confirmation email or a screenshot with the date on it.
  • Ask for the end date back in writing.

Questions to ask any salon software before you sign

  • What does the price cover per person, and what is charged on top: texts, a card terminal, online deposits, marketing?
  • How long is the agreement, how does it end, and how much notice does it need?
  • Can I download my full client list myself, free, at any time?
  • If I cancel, when does my booking page stop taking bookings, and who deletes my data and when?
  • Who answers when something breaks, and is that included?

Phorest’s own pages answer some of these and leave others to a quote. Ours are on the pricing page and the legal pages, so you can read them before you talk to anyone.

Bringing the file into Gaplessly

Import reads CSV, TSV, XLSX and JSON files up to 10MB, and it is open on every plan. Gaplessly’s column mapping recognises the headers that Fresha, Mindbody, Acuity, Boulevard and OpenTable exports use. Phorest is not on that list, so you check the mapping yourself, and you can correct any column before anything is saved. The dry run then checks the file against the real database and reports how many rows are ready, how many are already on file and how many cannot be imported, with a reason for each, before a single row is written.

Two limits to plan for. A client row with no phone number is refused, so fill those gaps first. And a booking import needs its client to exist already, matched by email, so import clients before upcoming bookings. If an import runs into trouble the app offers free migration help.

On price, Solo is free up to 50 bookings a month and A$19 in a busier one, Growth is A$59 a month for 3 bookable people, and Pro is A$149 for 10, all excluding GST. We do not quote a migration timeline because it depends on the size and state of your file; the dry run shows you what you are dealing with.

What Phorest does well

Phorest is built around salons and comes with people attached: a demo, a personalised set-up, phone support Monday to Saturday and free access to marketing consultants are all on its own pages. A product you set up yourself will not match that. If hands-on onboarding is what you pay for, it is a real part of the price.

When Phorest is the right choice

You run a busy salon, or several, and want a vendor built around salons that gives you a demo, a personalised set-up, phone support and free access to marketing consultants, all of which their own pages state. If you are happy to take a quote rather than read a price, and to sign a year-long agreement, that is a coherent trade, and a self-serve product will not give you the hands-on onboarding.

The contract, in plain terms

Cancel any time
Paid plans renew until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from the dashboard, with no exit fee, and your plan keeps working to the end of the period you paid for. Terms of Service.
Price rises
We email you at least 30 days before a price change applies to you, and a change never applies to a period you have already paid for. On a yearly plan you can cancel first and we refund the unused months. Billing Schedule.
No commission
We take no commission on bookings, deposits or no-show fees. Stripe charges its own card fees to your own Stripe account, and the Payments Terms say we would give 30 days’ notice before that ever changed. Payments Terms.

Common questions

How much does Phorest cost in Australia?

Phorest does not print a salon price. Its Australian pricing page lists five plans (Grow, Complete Advantage, Complete Advantage Plus, Aesthetics Advantage and Aesthetics Advantage Plus), each with a "Request a quote" button, and the quote form asks for your number of employees and locations. The only figures on the page are text rates of 12c on Grow and 8.5c on the other plans. We can only give our own numbers: Solo is free up to 50 bookings a month and A$19 in a busier one, Growth is A$59 a month. Read from phorest.com/au/pricing on 2 November 2026.

Can I leave Phorest before my year is up?

Their Australian terms say that if you end the agreement before the end of the contracted period you owe the subscription fees for the rest of it, plus any cancellation or data export fees (clause 13.1, read on 2 November 2026). After the first year it renews monthly and needs written notice at least a month before a period ends. Read your own order form and ask Phorest to confirm your end date in writing; this is not legal advice.

Will Phorest help me move my data?

Their help centre describes a free self-service export under Manager, Business, CSV Export, covering client data and purchase transaction history. Their terms add that a customised export needs an engineer, carries an administration charge, and that Phorest may delete your data 60 days after the contract ends. So take your own export while you still have access.

Can I import a Phorest file straight into Gaplessly?

Yes, as a CSV or XLSX file, but there is no Phorest preset. The importer auto-maps the headers that Fresha, Mindbody, Acuity, Boulevard and OpenTable exports use, so for a Phorest file you confirm or correct the column mapping yourself, then run the dry run, which writes nothing and lists every row that cannot be imported and why.

Can I cancel Gaplessly any time?

Paid plans renew until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from the dashboard, with no exit fee, and your plan keeps working to the end of the period you paid for.

How much notice do I get of a price rise?

We email you at least 30 days before a price change applies to you, and a change never applies to a period you have already paid for. On a yearly plan you can cancel first and we refund the unused months.

Does Gaplessly take a commission?

We take no commission on bookings, deposits or no-show fees. Stripe charges its own card fees to your own Stripe account, and the Payments Terms say we would give 30 days’ notice before that ever changed.
