Group your services into categories

Categories group related services together under a shared heading, both in your own dashboard and on your public booking page.

Quick answer

Go to Services in your dashboard, click Add Category, and name it (for example Colour, Cuts, Styling). Then open each service, choose that category from the Category field, and save. This only applies to the appointments booking flow.

1. What a category does

If you offer more than a handful of services, a single scrolling list gets hard to scan. A category is a named section, like Colour or Styling, that groups related services together under one heading.

Categories show up in two places. Your own Services screen splits into one section per category once you have any, and your public booking page can use the same grouping to organize what a customer sees.

Note:This is available on the appointments side of Gaplessly only. A hospitality guest picks a party size, date and time rather than a service from a list, so there's no service catalogue, and no category screen, on that side of the product.

2. Creating a category

  • Go to Services in your dashboard.
  • Under Categories, click Add Category.
  • Give it a name (required) and, if you like, a short description, a colour, and a photo.
  • Leave Active ticked so it shows on your booking page, or untick it to keep the category hidden while you set it up.
  • Click Add Category to save.

Categories sit at the top of the Services screen, with Add Category on the right.

3. Putting services into a category

Once at least one category exists, every service's edit form gains a Category field. Open a service, choose its category from the dropdown, or leave it as No category, and save.

A service doesn't have to belong to a category. Services left uncategorized still show up on your booking page: if you have at least one real category set up, they're collected into an automatic "Other services" section rather than being left out.

4. Reordering and removing categories

  • Drag a category by its handle, or use the up and down arrows, to change the order it appears in.
  • Click the pencil icon to edit a category's name, description, colour or photo.
  • Click the trash icon to delete a category.

Deleting a category never deletes or hides its services. They just become uncategorized.

5. Choosing how customers see them

On Settings, Booking page, under Booking Flow, the Service Layout setting decides how a customer meets your grouped services. Single list shows every service in one scroll and ignores categories. Pill bar shows a filter bar across the top, and tapping a category narrows the list to just that one.

Tip:This only takes effect once your booking page actually has two or more sections. That means two or more categories that each have services in them, or even just one category, as long as some services are left uncategorized, since they get their own automatic "Other services" section, which counts as the second one. With everything sitting in a single section, every customer sees the plain list no matter what this setting says.
