Gift Cards, at a glance.
Gaplessly's digital gift cards, also known as gift vouchers, are stored-value codes that restaurants and salons issue at the desk. You set the value, can add a recipient and an optional expiry, and redeem all or part of the balance at a later visit by entering the amount at close-out. Holders can check their balance online. An online gift card shop, automatic delivery emails and paying with a gift card during online booking are not available yet. Gift cards come with Marketing, on Venue Pro and Pro or as an add-on for A$29 a month on Venue Growth and Growth, and we take no commission on a booking.
How to sell a gift voucher at the desk
It is a gift card for business, sold at the counter. Sell the voucher at the desk, then open Gift Cards under Marketing and enter the value, up to $2,000 a card. Gaplessly gives you an 8-character code such as K7H4-QX9M. It leaves out 0, O, 1 and I, so nobody misreads it off a printed card or at the counter. A recipient name and email, a gift message and an expiry date are all optional.
Handing the code over is up to you: write it on a card, read it out, or paste it into your own email. Entering the recipient's email keeps it on the record but sends nothing. The Gift Cards tab lists every card with its original value, what is left and its status, so the team can find what is left when the holder comes back. Issuing a card takes an admin, or a team member you have given the Manage business settings permission.
Taking a gift voucher as payment
When the holder comes back, type the code into the close-out screen as you finish their appointment or reservation, or into a walk-in sale on the Payments page, and enter the amount to take. Redeeming from the Gift Cards tab works too, with a note such as which booking it paid for. The balance drops by that amount and whatever is left stays on the card.
Your team decides how much to apply. Gaplessly does not add up a full bill and take the gift card off it for you. Anyone on the team can redeem a card, so the front desk does not need to go looking for a manager.
Checking a gift card balance online
Every card has its own balance page under your business booking address, in your colours. It shows the code, what is left, what was first loaded, whether the card is still active and when it expires. Search engines are asked not to index it.
Issuing a card does not send that link anywhere yet, so share it yourself along with the code.
Digital gift cards and online sales: what is not built yet
This first version is for selling and redeeming at the desk. These are still future work:
- Selling digital gift cards or e-gift vouchers online through a shop page
- Emailing the card or its balance link to the recipient automatically
- Paying with a gift card while booking online, or splitting a payment between a gift card and a bank card
- Bonus-value gift card promotions
- Refunds back onto a gift card
- A gift card report. For now the Gift Cards tab is where you see balances
If you need to sell vouchers online today, this version will not replace a dedicated online voucher shop.

Yes. Gift cards work for restaurants and salons alike, and the code can be redeemed when you close out a reservation or an appointment. Staff enter the amount to apply; it is not worked out from a bill total.
